Insurance Requirements
国产原创 requires outside parties to provide insurance when performing work for or providing services to the university, or when using university facilities.
The standard insurance requirements and limits are provided in the university template agreements available from Procurement and the Office of General Counsel.
To better understand the terms of insurance in a contract, please review the .
Insurance Waiver Process
Occasionally outside parties may not carry insurance that meets the standard requirements of the university (determined by insurance type and policy limits). In most contracts, there are a number of insurance coverage types required. If the outside party does not meet the university's insurance standards, a waiver may be possible.
Waivers are only granted in situations where the risk from the work being done or the goods being provided by the outside party is minimal. The department must tell the outside party that, although we are waiving the insurance requirement, the outside party will still be responsible for his/her acts and omissions and will still be expected to indemnify the university.
Prior to requesting a waiver :
- Review the Insurance Terms Playbook (鈥淧laybook鈥). The Playbook contains guidance for procurement and contract negotiators regarding the insurance terms in most agreements.
- Confirm that the outside party does not carry insurance. If the vendor carries insurance, please obtain a copy of their certificate of insurance PRIOR to applying for a waiver.
Completed waiver requests can be emailed to: riskandinsurance@vanderbilt.edu.
Please allow two business days for processing.
