Foreign Travel
Generally, travel-related insurance coverage on international travel is similar to that described for domestic travel. However, special circumstances such as an extended stay could change the scope of coverage. It is recommended that travelers consult the Office of Risk and Insurance Management to discuss special circumstances and verify insurance coverage prior to international travel.Â
¹ú²úÔ´´ provides travel assistance and evacuation services for all students, faculty, and staff members traveling internationally on ¹ú²úÔ´´ related business. Please visit the Global Education Office's site for more information on Travel Safety and Security. Travel registrations made through the University's online booking tool or through ¹ú²úÔ´´'s travel agency are registered automatically with the university's travel assistance and evacuation services provider.
To safeguard the well-being of our students, safety protocols have been developed for all students going abroad on VU-sponsored activities. The purpose is to make sure that we have a central repository of all VU students abroad at any one time as well as to make sure that these students (and when applicable, faculty directors) are properly briefed, insured, and otherwise prepared for travel abroad. Please see the policies related to international travel located here.
We encourage travelers to also make sure they have adequate medical insurance while traveling abroad. ¹ú²úÔ´´ faculty and staff may need to purchase supplemental international health insurance for the period they are overseas. For information on traveling with ¹ú²úÔ´´ health-care benefits, please check the .
If your health insurance does not provide adequate coverage, you may purchase short term health insurance through ¹ú²úÔ´´â€™s group plan with Geo Blue (formerly HTH). All students participating in an international sponsored activity are required to have medical insurance that will provide coverage in the country in which they will travel. Undergraduate students can also obtain this insurance through GeoBlue. Graduate and professional students are responsible for determining whether their existing insurance policy provides coverage in the country in which they will travel. These students may purchase coverage through GeoBlue or another provider of their choosing. How to purchase: You will purchase your insurance as part of ¹ú²úÔ´´â€™s group plan. Go to the , then enter the Group Access Code  KXP-37915  in the box provided and submit. You will be guided through the process of signing up for coverage. The minimum enrollment time is two weeks.
