Sasha Waters Freyer is a moving image artist聽trained in photography and the documentary聽tradition who fuses original and found footage in聽16mm film and digital media. She visits iLens with聽a special sneak peak of her new documentary film! Her films聽have screened at a variety of prestigious聽international film festivals and museums, including聽Rotterdam, Telluride, Tribeca, the Pacific Film聽Archives, the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit.

France/Belgium/Germany/Haiti (2000) Dir:聽Raoul Peck. Raoul Peck fictionalizes the life聽and brutal execution of Patrice Lumumba, the聽leader of the Congolese National Movement.
The film charts Lumumba鈥檚 political career聽and radicalization in the fight for Congo鈥檚聽independence and the Cold War-era聽international forces that undercut the country鈥檚聽democracy. Critic Elvis Mitchell writes: 鈥淭his is聽a movie about chaos and regret, focusing on聽the unleashing of forces greater than any one聽person could hope to handle and the carnage,聽however necessary, left in their wake.鈥 聽French/Lingala/English. 120 min.
