By Omega Tennant, A&S senior, Asian Studies & HOD

In light of China’s rapid economic growth, international interest in the country is booming and tourists, educators, government ambassadors, traders, and students from all over the world are flocking to China. Visible from the panoramic observatory of the Guangzhou tower lays a population of African migrants -聙聯 estimated to range from 10,000 to 100,000 people -聙聯 who have come to Guangzhou in search of the “Chinese Dream”. 聽My presentation highlights this community of traders, known as “Little 聽Africa”, through personal anecdotes, media, and literature. The emergence of -聙聹Little Africa-聙聺 has begun to shift previous perceptions of trade patterns as occurring only between the West and Asia and is now demanding increased attention on the 聽burgeoning potential of the African continent.
