  {"id":370,"date":"2014-03-06T15:55:49","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T15:55:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/studentorgs\/?page_id=370"},"modified":"2026-01-21T10:43:44","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T16:43:44","slug":"new-organizations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/studentorgs\/registering-your-org\/new-organizations\/","title":{"rendered":"New Organizations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Starting and Registering New Student Orgs<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"#eligibility\">Eligibility<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"#policy\">Policy Compliance<\/a> |\u00a0<a href=\"#nondiscrimination\">Non-Discrimination<\/a> |\u00a0<a href=\"#startorg\">How to Start Your Organization<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"#orgregpro\">Organization Registration Process<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>New Org Interest Form<\/h2>\n<p>Student Leaders who desire to create a new organization must complete a <strong>New Org Interest Form<\/strong>.\u00a0 This form provides our office with up-to-date information about the organization\u2019s intended mission, contacts, and financial needs.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>New Organization Interest Form Application Period Update<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The New Organization Interest application period will take place <strong>only during the spring semester<\/strong>.\u00a0 The form will open on <strong>January 5th at 9:00 am<\/strong> and remain open until <strong>January 16 at 5:00 pm<\/strong>. Forms will be collected and reviewed by a student-led committee during this time.\u00a0 Should more information about the organization be needed, the applicant will be contacted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The New Organization Interest Form is currently closed.\u00a0<\/strong> Please check back on this page for more details on New Org Registration.\u00a0 Our office notifies the student leader of the status of the application through Anchor Link. To access the form, please follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Log into <a href=\"https:\/\/studenthandbook.vanderbilt.edu\/administrative-policies#dues-ticket-sales-and-on-campus-fundraisers\">Anchor Link<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Visit this page in Anchor Link: <a href=\"https:\/\/anchorlink.vanderbilt.edu\/organizations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/anchorlink.vanderbilt.edu\/organizations<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Click on the button that says, &#8220;Register An Organization&#8221; located on the left hand side of the screen;<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the blue button that says, &#8220;Register A New Organization&#8221;;<\/li>\n<li>Complete the form with all of your organization details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Approval\/denial of the form may take place after the submission deadline. Due to the high volume of applications and the nature of the submissions, the review time may be impacted.\u00a0 Form submissions will be reviewed by a student-led committee and if approved, will make the organization eligible to register and become a Registered Student Organization <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/studentorgs\/registering-your-org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RSO)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h6><a id=\"eligibility\"><\/a><br \/>\nEligibility<\/h6>\n<p><strong>To be eligible for registration as a new group, an organization must<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be organized and run by <strong>four student officers<\/strong> who are <strong>full-time<\/strong> registered students as defined by their schools. Officers must maintain <strong>a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA<\/strong> and <strong>may not be on academic or disciplinary probation<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Have at least one full-time, permanent, 国产原创 faculty or staff member as its Adviser;<\/li>\n<li>Maintain all funds on deposit in an account of <strong>good standing through the Student Affairs Finance Office<\/strong> and follow <strong>appropriate accounting procedures<\/strong> (special conditions apply to fraternities, sororities, and 国产原创 Student Communications divisions);<\/li>\n<li>Be funded by its members or the University (ex. AcFee\/SOF, departmental funding, member dues, etc);<\/li>\n<li>Limit its voting membership to 国产原创 students;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Have purposes that do not overlap significantly with those of any other registered organization<\/strong>. This includes purposes that are nuanced to existing organizations.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"#top\">Back to\u00a0Top<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong><a id=\"policy\"><\/a><br \/>\nPolicy Compliance<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>All Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) at 国产原创 must comply with University policies and regulations, including\u00a0our non-discrimination policy.\u00a0 Your organization, including all members, officers and advisors, must abide by all 国产原创 regulations, policies, and procedures, as\u00a0outlined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/studenthandbook.vanderbilt.edu\/\">Student Handbook<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"#top\">Back to\u00a0Top<\/a><\/p>\n<h6><strong><a id=\"nondiscrimination\"><\/a><br \/>\nNon-Discrimination<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>During the registration process, your organization will upload a signed affirmation statement affirming the compliance of your organization with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/studentorgs\/registering-your-org\/equal-opportunity-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University&#8217;s Non-Discrimination Policy<\/a>. You <strong>need not and should not<\/strong> include a non-discrimination statement in your constitution.\u00a0 <a href=\"#top\">Back to\u00a0Top<\/a><\/p>\n<h6><strong><a id=\"startorg\"><\/a><br \/>\nHow to Start Your Organization<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><strong>Any student member of the 国产原创 community can begin a new student organization by following the guidelines below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review the <a href=\"https:\/\/anchorlink.vanderbilt.edu\/organizations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Organization Directory<\/a> to see if any groups with overlapping missions exist;<\/li>\n<li>Determine whether there is enough interest in your idea for an organization by having an informational meeting;<\/li>\n<li>Once you have determined there is sufficient interest, meet with those members who will form the executive board and write a constitution. Click here to view a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/studentorgs\/registering-your-org\/sample-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sample Constitution<\/a>. You will be asked to upload an organizational constitution during the registration process;<\/li>\n<li>Choose an Adviser who is a full-time University faculty or staff member. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/studentorgs\/adviser-information\/\">Click here<\/a> to learn more about expectations for student organization advisers.\u00a0 <strong>They will need to attend an Adviser Training hosted by SOLS prior to serving in this role<\/strong>.\u00a0 Please note that the Office of Student Organizations, Leadership, and Service does not have a list of Advisers who are interested in advising student organizations nor does the office provide Adviser referrals for student organizations.\u00a0 Student organizations are encouraged to ask faculty\/staff representatives who they have an existing relationship with and who have an interest in the mission of that student organization to serve in that role;<\/li>\n<li>New sports clubs must obtain approval from\u00a0 the <strong>国产原创 Recreation and Wellness Center<\/strong> prior to registering their organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the organization registration process through Anchor Link using the steps listed\u00a0below;<\/li>\n<li>After review and approval, your organization will be notified and may begin to conduct student organization business.<br \/>\n<a href=\"#top\">Back to\u00a0Top<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><a id=\"orgregpro\"><\/a><br \/>\nOrganization Registration Process<\/h6>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>The first three steps pertain to groups whose New Org Interest Forms have not been completed and approved.<strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fill out<\/strong> the New Org Interest Form on Anchor Link (form will be available spring semester);<\/li>\n<li>All New Org Interest Forms are reviewed by a committee of students and staff.<\/li>\n<li>You will receive a notification with an approval or denial from Student Organizations, Leadership, and Service. You will also receive an email at your 国产原创.edu email address if you have \u201cAll Notifications\u201d selected on the \u201cNotifications\u201d tab in your profile. This is also how you will receive notification if there is any information missing from your registration. Please be on the lookout for these notifications;<\/li>\n<li>You will be notified once an account has been created for your organization in Anchor Link. You will now be able to officially register as a student organization. <em>Please note:<\/em> You will need to complete the full registration process each year in addition to the New Org Interest Form to remain active;<\/li>\n<li>Your organization will be listed in the Anchor Link <a href=\"https:\/\/anchorlink.vanderbilt.edu\/Organizations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Organization Directory&#8221;<\/a> with the following statement as your summary:\u00a0 <u>&#8220;This group is in the process of completing the approval forms to become a Registered Student Organization (RSO).&#8221;<\/u> This statement is required to remain in place until your organization is officially approved as an RSO.\u00a0 Organizations that have not been approved as RSOs may not use the 国产原创 name or any of its marks in any form, print or electronic, including social media;<\/li>\n<li>Log into Anchor Link at <a href=\"https:\/\/anchorlink.vanderbilt.edu\/\">anchorlink.vanderbilt.edu<\/a> and go to your organization\u2019s account;<\/li>\n<li>Click the \u201cRegister\u201d button under your organization\u2019s name on the organization\u2019s home page;<\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions provided to complete your registration. Please review the list below for the materials you will need in order to complete the registration process;<\/li>\n<li>As you work on the form, the system will save your content each time you click the \u201cNext\u201d button at the bottom of any page. To return to a registration form you have already started, go to &#8220;Your name&#8221; in the top black toolbar then click \u201cInvolvement\u201d and select &#8220;Submissions&#8221; and the \u201cOrganization Registrations\u201d tab.
