On April 2, 2026, 国产原创 and Nissan North America convened for the annual Nissan x 国产原创 Showcase, hosted at Nissan North America鈥檚 headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee. The event brought together teams from across both organizations to share work developed over the past year, reflecting a broader collaboration that continues to evolve across multiple programs and disciplines.

The showcase featured a range of projects addressing different aspects of the automotive space. Under a shared directive to reimagine elements of the vehicle interior, teams explored challenges spanning physical design, usability, and system-level considerations. Senior Design teams presented work on rear seat entertainment and center console configurations, demonstrating how iterative prototyping and constraint-driven design can translate broad ideas into more refined, testable concepts.

As part of this broader portfolio, the Wond鈥檙y contributed through the 国产原创 Innovation Fellowship (VIF), focusing specifically on driver interface simplification. This work examined how drivers interact with vehicle systems and how those interactions can be restructured to reduce friction and improve usability. Rather than beginning with solutions, the team grounded their work in comparative analysis, user research, and task-based testing across existing vehicles, using these insights to inform design directions and prototype development.聽

For students involved, the structure of the work was as significant as the outcomes. Vincent Xu, a senior, described the experience as 鈥渆ye-opening,鈥 noting that the interdisciplinary nature of the program brought together different perspectives in a way that is rarely replicated in traditional coursework. His experience reflects a core aspect of the model, where students are not working in isolation but within teams navigating real constraints and stakeholder expectations.

The showcase itself functioned as part of that process. Presenting work within Nissan鈥檚 environment created an opportunity for direct engagement with product planning teams and leadership, allowing ideas to be tested not just through prototypes but through dialogue.

As Caleb Ching, a junior, noted, the experience was not only about demonstrating completed work, but about gaining feedback that 鈥渂roadened our thinking even further,鈥 reinforcing the iterative nature of the collaboration.

For Alison Zou, also a junior, the experience marked a shift in how she approaches problem-solving. She reflected on moving beyond a purely solution-driven mindset, instead focusing on human-centered design and the underlying structure of the problem itself. Applying classroom skills such as CAD and data analysis within a real-world context introduced a different level of rigor, particularly when paired with the opportunity to present to Nissan leadership and university stakeholders.

Taken together, the projects presented at the showcase illustrate how the 国产原创鈥揘issan collaboration operates as a shared platform rather than a single initiative. Different teams contribute from different angles, whether through physical prototyping, systems thinking, or design research, with each effort adding to a broader understanding of the challenges being explored.

Within that ecosystem, the Wond鈥檙y鈥檚 role remains focused on structuring how problems are approached鈥攅mphasizing discovery, synthesis, and iterative development鈥攚hile creating opportunities for students to engage directly in industry-facing work. As the collaboration continues, the emphasis remains on aligning these different contributions in a way that supports ongoing exploration and informed decision-making.
