Jeffry Nyman

Research Focus

Dr. Nyman's research focuses on investigating methods for improving clinical assessment of fracture risk and identifying regulators of bone toughness (lack of brittleness). The ultimate goal of his research is to decrease the number of bone fractures associated with osteoporosis, diabetes, cancer, genetic diseases, and aging.

Projects

  • 听Develop a Raman spectroscopy technique that provides clinical assessment of bone fragility and improves fracture risk prediction

  • Investigate Raman spectroscopy methods for assessing advanced glycation end-products within the organic matrix and ascertain bone quality

  • Identify how matrix-bound water contributes to the fracture resistance of bone with respect to aging, type 2 diabetes, and Neurofibromatosis type 1 disease
